Answers to questions a. and b. for part 1 of Sir Gawain And The Green Knight



a. I believe that the knight being green symbolizes his connection to nature, which is backed up by the two things he was holding when he entered the room one is a branch of holly and the other in an axe both connecting him to nature specifically trees.

b. I think that the beheading contest is the Green Knights way of testing Gawain’s code of chivalry and to see if he will keep his word, to search for the Knight in order to receive his strike and finish the agreement.
